2007 Flotilla Goals

Goals

Action

Assessment

Increase communication throughout the flotilla by means of e-mail, regular mail, telephone calls and personal contact.

Increased the flow of information with an expanded use of the flotilla newsletter, The Beacon.  Jim Kier did an excellent job disseminating information to the membership by distributing the newsletter via USPS.  This kept those members without internet access informed of the flotilla happenings.

E-mails were used extensively to keep members informed and to communicate at the flotilla, division and district levels.

During the course of the year I made and received many telephone calls to and from flotilla members, division members and district officials.

Goal Achieved

Initiate a recruiting drive to increase the flotilla membership by 15% to 20%.

Increased membership by 16 members representing an 89% increase in membership over last year. Kudos to Linda

This endeavor, although very successful, proved to be one of the more difficult challenges of the year.  The time and energy expended was extraordinary given the time required to meet with candidates, give new member exams and orientations, and make arrangements for fingerprinting, getting members to division or flotilla meetings for fingerprinting and following up membership status.

.

Goal Exceeded

Increase the number of Public Education courses by holding at least 4 public education courses.

Goal Exceeded

Vessel Safety Examiners

Although we increased our vessel examiners by two with two more to come online in the spring we were dealt a blow when Lou Creamer announced he would not be doing VEs or marine visitations this year.  As an example of what we lost, Lou was received an award for putting in more than 750 hours to the Coast Guard in previous years.

Failed to Achieve Goal

Develop and maintain a flotilla website to give the public online access to our flotilla and the auxiliary.

Developed and maintained a very effective website.

http://a0531301.uscgaux.info

It includes forms to inquire about joining the USCGA, request vessel examines and it provides officers a vehicle to make monthly reports even when they are unable to attend meetings.  Also provides an avenue for the entire flotilla to submit comments, concerns and or questions to the officers.  It also provides several links to other useful websites

Goal Exceeded

Increase participation in public affairs events such as boat shows, community celebrations and other affairs to expose the auxiliary to the general public and recruit new members.

Participated in a public affairs event at Camden County College

Failed to Achieve Goal

Increase member training activities

Held member training sessions on uniforms and accessories, Rescue 21, Military protocols and rank insignia identification.  Held a BBQ/live training session at a member’s pool on the use life jackets including child and adult sizes, whistles, reflectors, tethers, and the ability of PFDs to rotate a person to a face up position.

Goal Achieved

Failed to Achieve Goal

Having meetings in other venues such as the Battleship New Jersey and the new and impressive Camden County Boat House at the Camden County Park in Pennsauken.  This is a two-fold goal, first to expose the public to the Coast Guard Auxiliary and to develop fellowship and camaraderie amongst the flotilla members.

After extensive research on conducting meetings at various venues including the Battleship USS New Jersey it was determined that the benefit did not justify the expense.

To give the meetings a more military flare a slide show of Coast Guard activities was projected on a wall during the meeting.

Goal Unachievable due to cost restraints

We increased out IT staff from 1 instructor at the beginning of the year to 10 instructors now.  Of the 10 instructors 2 were reinstated from REYR, 2 are awaiting approval of their request for waiver and four are waiting their certificates after completing all necessary requirements for IT. 1 other instructor has completed the requirements and has received approval for IT.

We increased our VE staff from one examiner at the beginning of the year to 3 examiners now.  Of the 5 members in VE REYR only one is interested in reinstating his VE qualifications.

We lost our only marine visitor.
